Greatest Mid South Champions

Greatest Mid South Champions (August 2017)

Mid South was one of the most successful territories that there ever was. It later changed it's name briefly to UWF. It was run by Bill Watts. I did not realize how much the WWE owed to Mid South until I watched a documentary on the territory. Many of the big stars of the late 80's came from Mid South fully formed.

Greatest USWA Champions

Greatest USWA Champions (August 2017)

The USWA, for a time was one of my favorite  promotions. It was formed by merging world class and the CWA. It was based in Memphis and Dallas, before GWF took over in Dallas. It was run by Jerry Jarrett and Jerry Lawler. It had a working relationship with WWE for a time, but that was when it's best days were behind it.

Greatest SMW Champions

Greatest SMW Champions (August 2017)

Smoky Mountain Wrestling was another great promotion in the early 90's. I remember reading the results each month in Pro Wrestling Illustrated. There were times when some of the wrestlers would appear in WWE. It was Jim Cornette's promotion. For awhile, it was there with GWF, USWA and ECW, until they all faded away. It was a very fun time despite WWE and WCW both having low points around this time. This 93-95.

Greatest GWF Champions

Greatest GWF Champions (August 2017)

The GWF was one of my favorite wrestling promotions ever. It was innovative, well run and had some great talent. It had a mix of older stars and younger ones that would go on to bigger and better things. It was based in Dallas in the early 90's. Here is a list of all of their champions. We all used to watch this on ESPN after school each day. It was a great time. There was a lot of cross over, you will notice from USWA and World Class.

Greatest ECW Champions

Greatest ECW Champions (August 2017)

ECW had a massive influence on wrestling in many ways. There was a time when it really was fantastic and cutting edge. The WWE version was terrible. It was not great because of the violence.
