Greatest Mario Bava films

Greatest Mario Bava films (August 2013)

This is a list of the greatest Mario Bava films. Bava was a fantastic directer. His main area of specialty was horror. He made films in other genres, but horror was his main area. His films range from gothic horror to giallo to sci fi to proto slasher. He all but invented the giallo film with films such as The girl who knew too much and Blood and Black Lace. His trademark was lurid color. He sometimes used colored gels and lenses. His film Planet of the Vampires is said to have inspired Alien. Bay of Blood was said to have inspired Friday the 13th. His giallo films inspired Argento who then went on to inspire a plethora of others. Bava's films are works of arts. The violence in them can be extreme, but even that is done in away that conveys artistic brilliance.

Greatest Dario Argento films

Greatest Dario Argento films (August 2013)

Argento was, for my money, one of the greatest horror film directors of all time. He was certainly one of the greatest Italian horror film directors of all time. He is an equal to Mario Bava in many ways. Although his films are notable for the gruesome violence within them, they are also works of art in their own right. Someone once said that any one frame of film from his films could be framed as individual pieces of artwork. I believe that this is the case. Even the violence has a certain lurid beauty to it in Argento's work. His main forte was giallo. These were murder mysteries where a murder has taken place and the protagonist has to try to find out who the murderer is. They are usually threatened by the killer themselves or are considered suspects themselves. It is always an unseen killer in disguise. The murders are usually done with sharp objects. In Argento's films, the murders are elaborate, dramatic set pieces. I believe that the influence of this can be seen in later slasher films such as A Nightmare on Elm Street. Some compare him to Fulci, but I believe a more apt comparison would be to Hitchcock.

Greatest Television Characters Part 1 (July 2013)

This is a list of my favorite television characters of all time. It won't fit all on one page so I am doing it in parts. I will probably do a new list containing characters that I forgot or have enjoyed since that time. Of course, this list was written in 2013 and things can change. It would probably be slightly different if I were writing it today. Some characters would be higher, some lower. You will notice that the majority of the characters will be from the 80's and 90's.
